Hello

I founded Nord Associates in 2023 to help investors build better private market portfolios.  I spent the first 18 years of my career with two different companies where I focused almost entirely on alternative investments.  During that time, I have had the privilege of learning from incredible colleagues, clients, professors, and friends.

My Story

My career began at Jeffrey Slocum and Associates (“Slocum”) in 2005 after completing undergraduate studies in Economics and Finance at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.  After a year as an entry-level analyst, I moved to the alternative investment manager research team where I would spend the next 10 years.  That role had two key responsibilities.  One was to scour the alternative investment manager universe for opportunities across asset classes.  I would conduct full due diligence and approve funds as a voting member of the alternative investment committee.  Post approval, I conducted ongoing diligence and served as an LP advisory board member for several of our approved funds.  The other half of the role was client-centric.  I developed a proprietary commitment model that I implemented with over 50 clients ranging from small $25 million foundations and endowments to multi-billion-dollar hospital systems and corporate pensions.  Here I learned the importance of forward calendar planning, and thoughtful, goal-oriented portfolio construction.

While at Slocum, I earned my CFA Charter and completed the CAIA program.  I am currently the Head of the Minnesota CAIA Chapter.  I was also honored to attend the University of Chicago – Booth School of Business, where I learned from best-in-class professors across disciplines.  In 2012, I completed its Executive MBA program and graduated with honors.  The alumni network I built during those years is invaluable.

In 2016, I joined RBC Wealth Management where I was tasked with the development of an alternative investment platform.  This afforded me a different view of my chosen field.  I learned about administrative aspects, fund distribution, product structures, and tax implications.  I helped to digitize a platform that had historically relied on manual paper processes.  During my tenure at RBC, I remained close to the manager selection and diligence process by leading its pipeline and sourcing efforts and serving on the Alternative Investment Committee.  I was grateful to work with some outstanding financial advisors who allowed me to implement my institutional portfolio construction methods with their high-net-worth clients.

Nord Associates is based in Minnesota, where I call home with my wife, two daughters, and a 14-year-old golden retriever.  When we are not running to our kids’ activities, we enjoy traveling, hiking, skiing, and working toward our goal of reaching the highest point in all 50 states.  We are at 12 and counting.
